Biggest Week in American Birding - Learn from pros Ben Ayling and Tom Yackley!

Before the workshop begins,

there will be a preliminary zoom meeting with the participants and the instructors. This ensures that participants know what to expect, where we will be going, and park regulations. Instructors will want to know what equipment participants use, and their skill level and interests so that the instruction may be tailored to their needs.

Day 1

Arrive/Check-in at Holiday Inn Express, 3154 Navarre Ave., Oregon, OH 43616, 3:00pm-6:00pm

Reception, 7:00pm

  • An opportunity to meet the staff and fellow attendees over snacks and conversation

  • Bring your equipment questions for Tom and Ben

Day 2

Breakfast on your own

Depart from the lobby, 6:30am

  • Magee Marsh 

    • Boardwalk

    • Estuary

  • Lunch at a local eatery

  • Metzger Marsh Wildlife Area

  • Howard Marsh Metropark

  • Return to hotel for rest and dinner

  • 7:00-9:00 Evening post production workshop (bring your laptop with lightroom loaded)

Day 3

Breakfast on your own

Depart from the lobby, 7:00am

  • Maumee Bay State Park

    • Swamp forest boardwalk

    • East property trail

  • East Harbor State Park

  • Lunch at a local eatery

  • Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge

    • Various trails

    • Wildlife drive

  • Return to hotel for rest and dinner

  • 7:00-9:30 pm Evening post production workshop (bring your laptop with lightroom loaded) and a thumb drive.

Day 4

Breakfast on your own

Checkout of hotel

Depart from the lobby, 8:00am

  • Return to Magee Marsh for the morning

    • Boardwalk

    • Estuary

  • Farewell until next time!

Time to head home with your fabulous captures!

And maybe get a little shuteye.

The month following the workshop,

there will be a follow-up zoom meeting with the participants and the instructors. This will be an opportunity for all to share some of their photos with the group. We’ll also do a bit of post-processing to ensure that all have improved, not only in the field, but also in the editing of their photos.

Workshop leaders Ben Ayling and Tom Yackley are lifelong arts educators and award-winning photographers. Their main interest in these workshops is helping you to improve your skills with a camera and with post-processing. Bios are on the About page.
